Cavalry FC Extend League Lead on Labour Day

Cavalry FC celebrated Labour Day in style with a 3-1 victory over Halifax at the Wanderers Grounds on Monday.

The league leaders extended their lead at the top of the Canadian Premier League table to four points, thanks to three second-half goals that saw them collect three more points and make it seven straight matches unbeaten, six of which have been wins.

Both clubs made changes to their starting elevens, but it was Cavalry who came out on top in the end. Halifax created some early chances, with Adonijah Reid sending a low shot off the post and Jason Bahamboula curling a strike that also hit the woodwork.

Cavalry’s Sergio Camargo had a chance of his own in the first half, but curled an outside-of-the-foot strike just wide of the net. The first half was cagey, with neither side able to find much cohesion in their attack.

A tactical adjustment at half-time made all the difference for Cavalry. Manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. brought on Eryk Kobza, allowing Sergio Camargo to shift out onto the right wing and get closer to goal.

“It allowed us to get a little bit more space when we had possession,” said Wheeldon Jr. “and then when they were outnumbered because they put numbers forward, they left gaps which we exploited.”
