Youth Alliance Cup: Lincoln City 5 Walsall 2

Walsall Under-18s’ Youth Alliance Cup campaign came to an abrupt end on Saturday morning as they suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Lincoln City Under-18s in the last 16 of the competition.

The young Saddlers had been riding high on the back of victories over Rotherham United, Salford City, and Oldham Athletic in the Alliance – North group stage, but they were unable to replicate that form against the Imps at Riseholme College.

Lincoln City took an early lead through a well-taken goal, and despite Walsall’s best efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net until the second half. Even then, it was too little, too late as Lincoln City ran out comfortable winners.

Despite the disappointing result, Walsall’s young players can hold their heads high after a promising start to the competition. They will look to bounce back in their next match and continue their development under the guidance of their coaches.
