Uruguayan Roots of a Canadian Legend: Lucas Cavallini’s Journey to Forge FC

Lucas Cavallini, the 33-year-old Canadian international striker, has made headlines once again after signing with Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League. But what many may not know is that Cavallini’s footballing journey began in Uruguay, where he spent formative years honing his skills.

Born in Toronto and raised in Mississauga, Cavallini left Canada at 16 to join Club Nacional’s youth setup in Uruguay. He would go on to establish himself in the Uruguayan Primera División with spells at Juventud de Las Piedras, CA Fénix, and CA Peñarol, where he won the 2016-17 league title.

Cavallini’s impressive form in Uruguay earned him a move to Mexico with Club Puebla, where he became one of Liga MX’s most reliable strikers. He scored 29 goals across all competitions over parts of three seasons before returning to Canada with the Vancouver Whitecaps in December 2019.

With Forge FC, Cavallini brings a wealth of experience and a proven scoring record for Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team. “Lucas is a proven goalscorer at the highest levels of our region,” said Bobby Smyrniotis, Head Coach & Sporting Director, Forge FC. “He brings a physical presence, a real hunger in the box, and the kind of leadership and international pedigree that raises the standard around our group.”
