NWSL: Kerr Returns to Scoresheet in Thrilling Thorns-Gotham Draw

The Portland Thorns and NJ/NY Gotham FC delivered a high-octane performance on Friday night, with both teams creating plenty of scoring chances in front of an electric crowd.

Gotham’s Midge Purce opened the scoring in the second minute, connecting beautifully on a volley from Guro Reiten. However, their celebrations were short-lived as Emily Sonnett suffered a knee injury and was stretchered off the field.

Rookie Renee Lyles equalized for the Thorns in the 21st minute, scoring her first career goal with a stunning finish. Pietra Tordin provided the assist, her seventh of the year.

Sam Kerr returned to the scoresheet for the Thorns, but it was not enough as the match ended in a thrilling draw. The result sees both teams remain at the top of the table, with plenty of drama still to come in the NWSL season.
