The Swiss women’s national team got off to a disappointing start in the new international season as they drew 0-0 with Iceland in the first round of League A of the Nations League.

The match at the Letzigrund in Zurich was an evenly-matched game, with neither team managing to score. National coach Pia Sundhage made several changes to her team after their heavy defeat against Germany and honorable defeat in England.

Captain Lia Wälti returned from injury, as did defensive boss Luana Bühler, giving the team stability. However, the Swiss struggled to create attacking moves against the compact Icelandic side, often lacking precision, penetration, or a brilliant idea.

Good attempts, but no goal: Sydney Schertenleib and the Swiss national team do not get off to the desired start to the new international season.

Despite the draw, Sundhage’s team showed commitment and determination, with Sydney Schertenleib putting in a committed performance.
