Liverpool v Manchester United | Can Liverpool do a Double on the Reds?

Published: 2022-04-18 By: The Guru

Liverpool will host Manchester United at Anfield tomorrow night. A win for Liverpool will see them move top of the table at the expense of Manchester City. United are also looking for three points to aid in their fight for a top-four finish at the end of the season.

Liverpool sits at number two on the EPL table, with one point separating them from Man City. Both teams have seven matches left to play and will look to capitalize on all of them if they are to emerge as title winners. In the off chance both win seven out of seven, Man City will take the title for the second time in a row. Klopp’s lads cannot afford to lose out on United.

The Red Devils at position five with 54 points are looking to close in on Tottenham at position four with 57 points. Spurs and United have six games left to play, with Arsenal having seven while tying points with United. A win over Liverpool will be an enormous boost in their race to the top four. Chelsea is sitting comfortably at position three with 62 points and eight games left to play.

United's defense is looking sketchy, conceding a goal or two in their last five matches. Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea deserve some credit for their outstanding performances. In their last five matches, United has won two, with Ronaldo scoring all the six goals on both occasions to give United a win. At 37, Ronaldo is still bagging hat tricks in Europe's toughest league. His three goals on Saturday saw a dysfunctional United barely make it past a relegation-threatened Norwich.

Liverpool is coming off a 3-2 win against their archrivals Man City in the FA semi final match held at Wembley Stadium on Saturday last week. If Klopp’s lads are looking to secure the historic treble, if they get the better of Chelsea in the FA Cup final, win the Champions League and the EPL title. Only United have ever won the three cups in one season. Liverpool is on top form with four wins out of five in its last premier league. The last match was a 2-2 draw against Man City.

Man United has not won in its last six premier league matches against Liverpool, with the recent match ending in an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at home. If Manchester United walks into Anfield with their current gameplay, we could end up seeing a repeat of last year’s thrashing. Both teams will look to snatch an important three points tomorrow night. We can expect anything from three goals and above in this match.
