Top 10 EFL Championship Players Waiting For A Summer Move To A Premier League Club

Published: 2023-03-31 By: The Guru

The summer transfer window is only two months away, and Premier League clubs have been targeting successful EFL Championship players throughout the season. Most Championship teams only have eight games to go, and it’s starting to be the last chance for players to prove why they deserve to play English top-tier football next season. But who are the players most likely to move to a Premier League club next summer? We listed the top 10 most likely options below!

1. Alex Scott - Bristol City

The youngest player on the list is only a 19-year-old attacking midfielder playing for Bristol City. Even though Bristol City’s season hasn’t been the best, and they are only 14th on the table, Alex Scott still managed to make his final breakthrough as one of the most promising players in English football. He has made 37 appearances for Bristol City, scoring one goal and assisting five. After a bright season, many top teams consider Scott as one of their potential summer transfer targets, including Tottenham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham.

2. João Pedro - Watford

Watford is currently sitting in the 10th position of the EFL Championship table and will likely play another season in that league. Because of that, some of their star players, like Joao Pedro, will likely seek greener pastures. So far, João Pedro has been Watfords’ best player this season and their biggest threat going forward. Plenty of Premier League teams were already after him last summer, and since he has been playing an influential role in the Watford squad this season, he’ll likely get a move to a bigger club next summer.

3. Teemu Pukki - Norwich City

The 33-year-old Finn is at the end of his contract with Norwich this summer. Even though Pukki is already past his prime, he would still be a terrific backup for a bottom-half Premier League club. Even though the whole Norwich City squad has been underperforming this season, and Pukki’s role has been smaller than before, he is still putting in decent numbers. Because of that, and according to Finnish betting experts from Vedonlyontisivustoni.com, there are plenty of rumors about Pukki’s potential Premier League move this summer.

4. Taylor Harwood-Bellis - Burnley

The promising 21-year-old center-back was loaned out of Manchester City last summer and has taken the Championship by storm. Working under Kompany, one of the best center-backs in Premier League history, has been great for Harwood-Bellis’ career. Before his injury last

January, Harwood-Bellis was one of the best center-backs in the EFL Championship. If he can overcome his injury, he’s likely to be loaned to another Premier League club next summer.

5. Ismaïla Sarr - Watford

Ismaïla Sarr is in a situation where he needs to decide whether he wants to move to a bigger club and fight for his position or stay in Watford and become a club legend. During the past couple of seasons, there have been rumors about Sarr leaving the club, but at 25, he is still one of their most important players. Since it looks like Watford is not able to climb back to the Premier League this season, Sarr might have one of his final chances to get a move to a bigger club.

6. Jayden Bogle - Sheffield United

Bogle missed the start of the season, having a knee injury. He finally got fit in December and got his position in the starting 11 back in January, and the results have been great. Bogle has already played in the Premier League during 2020/21 and is still only 22. Since many Premier League clubs lack a promising right-wing back, Bogle likely will be playing in England’s top flight next season. Compared to his experience, age, and quality, he will be a perfect cheaper option for many bottom-half Premier League clubs.

7. Viktor Gyökeres - Coventry City

The Sweden international moved to Coventry City from Brighton two years ago and has been the team's best player during both seasons in the club. Gyökeres has leveled up his game and has the most combined goals and assists in the EFL Championship this season. He’s also the second-top goal scorer, has the second most expected goals, expected goals on target, and has the most penalties won. After all, he’s only 24 years old and could do wonders for a bottom-half Premier League club.

8. Chuba Akpom - Middlesbrough

Akpom is playing the best football of his life this season, but at 27, he isn’t a promising youngster. This season, he has scored 24 goals in the league, has the most goals per 90, the most expected goals, the second most shots on target per 90, and the most expected goals and assists per 90. It’s relatively easy to say he has been on fire this season. During the past years, Akpom has played four games in the Premier League but never made his final breakthrough. But as we all know, after being the top scorer in the EFL Championship, plenty of Premier League teams will be after you. That’s why many believe Akpom will play in the Premier League next season.

9. Ben Brereton Diaz - Blackburn Rovers

This season, Brereton Diaz hasn’t been as dominant as last year but has still had a good impact on Blackburn Rovers. In the EFL Championship, he scored 12 goals and assisted four, which is relatively impressive for a player who plays in an overperforming side. Brereton Diaz is the top scorer on his team and will be a crucial player when fighting for promotion. For the last one and a half years, many Premier League clubs have been after Brereton Diaz, and if Blackburn Rovers isn’t going to get promoted, maybe he’ll finally get his move to a bigger club next summer.

10. Amad Diallo - Sunderland

After a slow start for the season, the 20-year-old Manchester United loanee has shown why he was priced around 20 million before moving to United in January 2021. He’s been one of the most important players for the Sunderland side, scoring nine goals and assisting two. Otherwise, Diallo would be higher on the list, but it’s likely, that he will get his chance at United next season and not move to another club. Another option is to get a new loan and move to another Premier League club. Either way, Diallo will most likely play Premier League football next season.
